Having Fun at the Happy Run

Save the Dream ambassador Giusy Versace raises awareness and funds for disability sport with the third edition of the charity run.

Our work is driven by an ambition to make sport an activity that's fair, pure and accessible to everybody - free from discrimination of any kind. While awareness of disability in sport has made great progress in recent years, there is still much more to be done to ensure the inclusion and integration of disabled athletes on a global scale. Save The Dream Ambassador and Paralympic Champion Giusy Versace is a passionate supporter of this cause, aiding our campaign to raise awareness through active participation by organising a "Happy Run" in Reggio Calabria, Italy.

“I'm very happy with how it went. With great satisfaction I witnessed many young people try out the Paralympic disciplines we set up - it's a small step towards the integration of sport for disabled and able-bodied athletes.”

This special event saw over 800 people from many different backgrounds gather to run 3km - celebrating the fun to be had from group exercise and taking a positive step for inclusivity in sport. As well as participating in the non-competitive race, young people got the chance to see demonstrations of various Paralympic activities and even have a go themselves.
The Happy Run succeeded not only increasing knowledge, involvement and solidarity for disability sport, but also raising vital funds to buy specialised sporting equipment for aspiring Paralympians. Giusy is an inspiration to the next generation of athletes as she works towards qualifying for Doha's World Championships in 2015 and the Rio Paralympic Games. Save the Dream wish her the very best of luck as she continues to set a shining example to young sportsmen and women around the world.
